I'm officially an AFC®
I did it!
I’m excited to share I’m officially an AFC®. While I passed my exam back in Dec 2024, I hadn’t turned in my 1000 experience hours, so it wasn’t officially official. I set the goal to get it done in Q1, and while it was a close call I did jt.
So why did I become an AFC?
There’s so many reasons....but...here's 6 reasons why.
I love learning.
My heart with talking about money is to learn concepts and strategies and to bring it back to my community. I've been faciliating financial literacy workshops for years and thought it would be great to formalize my faciliation with a certification. The community I seek to work with are: women, BIPOC creatives, individuals who have experienced financial instability, and/or love God but are confused or carry shame with money.
I loved their commitment to equity and accessibility.
I don’t have a BA, and many certifications I was looking into had the BA requirement. Because AFCPE® values making financial wellness accessible to all, it allowed me to gain access to a certification, and take what I’m learning back to my community. A win win!
For some letters after my name.
Ha, but for real. Unfortunately, we live in a society that values credentials, education and more than one’s actual lived experiences. Often times lower income individuals aren’t at the table making financial decisions or sharing financial content. While I’m no longer low income, I am committed to creating my content with compassion and empathy. My hope is to continue to establish myself as a thought leader, while knowing my truth worth and value has nothing to do with my educational background. I am simply enough because I am.
I’m seeing God gifted me in numbers.
Y’all I have always been one who can see strategies and patterns from afar. I had no idea that this was skill I was created with. I’m learning to trust myself as I partner with God, and remaining humble with money. I truly believe in the power of our collective thriving. But I also see why the young rich ruler had a hard time saying yes to Jesus when he asked him to give all his possessions away in order to follow him. Because the more you get/have, the harder it is to give it away. I want to remain a generous person in every area of my life while moving towards what it means to build wealth and leave a legacy to my next 2 generations and community.
For my mid-lifers.
For many of us mid-lifers, we have experienced so much financial trauma. We also didn’t get started with investing or saving in our young 20’s like some did. Again, I want to take what I’m learning and share it with other mid-lifers in a way that is shame-free but actionable and practical. I’m constantly reminding myself it’s not too late to start investing, to build generational wealth and more.
To launch my own private practice.
Y’all there is something about story and one on one’s that I love. This certification allows me the opportunity to launch my private practice where I can take on clients and provide financial counseling. Like for real…how amazing?!? I dream of opening up a creative healing center where I can partner with other experts to offer holistic healing for women. Stay tuned bc I’m officially looking for a space in Las Vegas. Eek!
So friends, this is extra long. If you made it this far thanks for being here. Thanks for celebrating me. And thanks for cheering me on along the way.
xoxo-
