I'm officially an Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®)!

Apr 26, 2025

I’m excited to share I’m officially an AFC®. While I passed my exam back in Dec 2024, I hadn’t turned in my 1000 experience hours, so it wasn’t officially official. I set the goal to get it done in Q1, and while it was a close call I did it.

So why become an AFC?
There’s so many reasons.

1. I love learning.

My heart with talking about money is to learn concepts and strategies and bring it back to my community. For those who are women, are BIPOC, have experienced financial instability, love God but are confused about money and feel shame about wanting or having money and/or more!

2. I loved their commitment to equity and accessibility.

I don’t have a BA, and many certifications was looking into had the BA reauirement. Because AFCEFE values making financial wellness accessible to all, it allowed me to gain access to a certification that I could participate in. And take what I’m learning back to my community. A win win!

3. For some letters after my name.

Ha! But for real. Unfortunately we live in a society that values credentials, education and more than one’s actual lived experiences. Often times lower income individuals aren’t at the table making financial decisions or sharing financial content. While I’m no longer low income, I am committed to creating my content and sharing with compassion and empathy. My hope is to continue to establish myself as a thought leader, while knowing my truth worth and value has nothing to do with my educational background. I am simply enough because I am.

4. I’m seeing God gifted me in this area.

Y’all I have been one who can see strategies and patterns from far away. I had no idea that this is a strength and skill I was created with. I’m learning to trust myself in this skill and to remain humble with money. I truly believe in the power of collective thriving when we put our dollars together. But I also see why the young rich ruler had a hard time saying yes to Jesus when he asked him to give all his possessions away. Because the more you get/have, the harder it is to give it away. I want to remain a generous person in every area of my life while learning what it means to build wealth and leave a legacy to my next 2 generations and community.

5. For my mid lifers.

For many of us mid-lifers we have experienced so much financial trauma. And many of us didn’t get to start investing or saving in our 20’s like some did. Again I wanted to take what I’m learning and share it with other mid lifers in a way that is Shane free but actionable and practical. I’m constantly reminding myself it’s not too late to start investing, to build generational wealth and more.

6. To start my own private practice.

Y’all there is something about story and one on one’s that I love. This certification allows me the opportunity to launch my private practice where I can take on clients and provide financial counseling. Like for real…how amazing?!? I dream of opening up a creative healing center where I can partner with other experts to offer holistic healing for women. Stay tuned bc I’m officially looking for a space in Las Vegas. Eek!

So friends, this is extra long. If you made it this far thanks for being here. Thanks for celebrating me. And thanks for cheering me on along the way.
